I jarred my back in work causing chronic pain in my left leg. Having sought help from a physiotherapist, chiropractor and osteopath I was advised by the osteo to have an MRI scan. I booked in with Spire, Liverpool and saw Mr Popa a few days later. He listened to my symptoms and referred me for an MRI scan which I had 5 days later. In the following week I had the results that I had a herniated L5-S1 disc and Mr Popa recommended microdiscectomy surgery. Four weeks ago today, I came into hospital having not been able to sit/stand/walk/lie down without horrific pain for months. I've not felt any pain in my left leg since I woke up from surgery. The scar is an inch and a half long, neat and has healed really well. Mr Popa was superb from start to finish and I can't thank him enough for literally giving me my life back after months of a debilitating injury. He's given me advice to further my recovery and referred me for physiotherapy within the hospital. I cannot thank Mr Popa enough. I highly recommend him for issues like I had.

Mr Popa is a wonderful clinician. Extremely caring, very thorough and with a deep knowledge and understanding of his field, he inspires confidence throughout treatment. My decompression surgery was advised to relieve chronic, severe sciatic pain. The procedure was carefully explained, expertly performed and has made a huge difference to my life. Follow up was excellent and recovery quick and uneventful. I would recommend Mr Popa wholeheartedly.

Im 54, having suffered from significant pain in my right leg , which i had initially thought was due to my hip replacement when i was 48, an MRI scan showed my lower discs pushing against my nerve canal and i required a lumbar de compression operation. I was recommended to Mr Radu Popa. A spinal operation is not something to look forward to , but Mr Popa gave me complete assurance, in the initial consultation and on the day. Indeed the whole team at the Spire Murrayfield i nThingwall were excellent , from reception, through to the nursing staff, theatre staff , recovery staff. I went in on the Thursday Morning and discharged on the Friday evening. The cut of about 4 inches has healed very well after. Mr Popa came to see me after the op , explained all that he had done and I knew straight away the op had been successful as much of the pain had gone - Couldnt fault the whole experience at all - Thank you Mr Popa and your Team !

I was in a real mess due to a disc in my neck pressing on the spinal cord. My surgery was delayed due to covid and I got worse. Mr Popa had arranged a scan and when he saw the results got me in the next week. The disc was removed and the vertebrae fused. The surgery was a great success, I may never get back to normal due the extent of the comprehension. However I am far better than previously. Mr Popa was very honest and professional at all times. I liked the way he said it as it is, but did so professionally. The rest of the staff from nurses to the other consultants was first class. Can't ask for more to be honest

I was referred to Mr Radu Popa by another surgeon who arranged for an MRI scan of my lumbar region, because I had quite wrongly thought my problem was with my right hip. On reviewing the MRI scan Mr Popa very quickly advised I had severe L4/L5 spinal canal stenosis. Mr Popa decided to arrange for a right L5 nerve root injection to see if this would alleviate the problem. However, this did not help and after a telephone conversation Mr Popa said the only course of action would be for decompression surgery and that he would put me on his list at Spire. Unfortunately, Covid 19 arrived and all elective care surgery was delayed. Mr Popa was very professional and fully understood how much pain I was in, so much so he kept in touch with me by telephone consultation every month to see how I was. His care and attention for his patients is second to none and by his friendly approach makes you feel so important. He finally arranged for the procedure to take place in July 20 when Spire opened again for elective care surgery. On arriving at the hospital he very quickly called to see me on the ward and fully explained the procedure and introduced me to his anaesthetist, a young lady called Zoe who again took the time and care to explain fully how her part would be played. I am now at home three weeks later and without the chronic pain I had for nearly twelve months. Mr Popa has given me my life back and I can only recommend him 100% to anybody requiring decompression surgery.
